Belinda Walkinshaw

Belinda Walkinshaw

Belinda deals with both contentious and transactional work, but principally her expertise lies in litigation and dispute resolution. Her key focus is helping residential and commercial clients with all manner of property disputes. These include complex and high value litigation in courts and tribunals – including the High Court and Court of Appeal.

Belinda advises freeholders, lessees and nominee purchasers in lease extension claims, collective enfranchisement of blocks of flats, exercise of the right of first refusal, and purchase of the freehold and contested cases in the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal.

“I believe that flexibility, accessibility and a keen understanding of the clients’ business and the issues they are facing is vital. Rather than just following process, we work together as a team focusing on the matters at hand and any concerns they may have.

I get to know my client’s business and how things work on a practical level. I like to visit their premises and see what they look like on the ground. This helps me understand the practical issues and the impact of any dispute.

Together we put create a strategy and plan our approach towards the problem. We then review this as things progress to ensure we are all singing from the same song sheet, with the same end game in mind.

It is so important to keep on top of any developments so I am always happy to be available to deal with urgent matters outside office hours and will pick up emails and voice messages regularly – day and night.”

Belinda is also one of a handful of lawyers in the UK who specialise in Equine Law. Belinda’s personal experience with owning, training and riding horses gives her an in-depth perspective on this highly specialised legal field. Belinda has two former racehorses who she trains to compete at Teamchasing – where a great sense of humour and a team spirit is a must.

Belinda studied at University College London and completed the Common Professional Examination and Law Society Finals at the College of Law, Chester.  She is a member of the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioner (“ALEP”) and the Property Litigation Association as well as a Committee Member and Hon. Sec. of British Teamchasing.
